Tire Maintenance and Safety Tips

It is important to monitor the tread on your tires. Thin tread can cause a blowout or accident. To check the tread, grab a penny and take the penny test.

With Lincoln’s head pointing towards the center of the tire, stick the penny in a tire groove. If any of the rubber covers his head, the tire is good. If you can see the top of his head, the tread is too thin. It is time for a new set of tires.

Tires exposed to extreme heat and cold will break down faster. Old tires, six years are older, might need replacing. Each manufacturer recommends the age their tires need replacing. It is usually six to ten years.

Road conditions will have an effect on the life of tires. Rugged dirt roads and a lot of braking will shorten the lifespan of a tire.
